Red Drum, Red Fish (year round fishing) Red drum are very abundant in our marshes thoughout the year. Fishing (hunting) takes place in less than 3' of water. We throw topwater, jigs, bait and of course the fly at the reds. Fishing on schools of fish 40 to 100 fish is quite common. In August and September we fish for the Giant Red Drum, where the fish average 30 to 50 pounds. Very consistent fishing. False Albacore (March, April and October, November, December) World Class Fishing on the fly or spin. We catch false albacore almost year round, primarily spring, winter, and the fall. These speedsters peel line from any reel at a tremendous rate. Topwater action at times is so crazy that you have to see it for yourself to believe it. 12 to 20 pound fish are often caught right in the inlets or not to far off the beach. Tarpon (July & August) Yes, North Carolina has Tarpon. No need to going to Florida to catch a big Tarpon. There are good numbers of fish over the 100 pound class. The Pamilco Sound in the summer heats to over 80 degrees which is perfect for the silver kings. Wreck & Reef fishing (May through November) Cobia, kings, spanish, bonita, jacks, cudas, grouper, sharks occupy the reefs most of the year. These fish have been taken on surface plugs swimmers, and on the fly. Long strong runs are the case with these brutes. Topwater action can be explosive.
